NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say they seized three handguns and more than four pounds of marijuana during a raid at a Newark apartment.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Task Force conducted the raid Friday as part of an investigation into narcotics distribution in Newark. Task force detectives executed a search warrant and recovered the guns, marijuana and more than $15,000 in cash. Authorities say the marijuana has a street value of over $40,000.
Detectives arrested 25-year-old Markel E. Nelson of Newark and charged him with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and weapons offenses. He’s being held in the Essex County Correctional Facility pending an appearance in county court. It wasn’t immediately known if he’s represented by a lawyer.
