It looks like Vice President Joe Biden has his eye on an iconic automobile once he leaves the White House. His new ride could be a classic vehicle which just happens to go from 0-to-60 mph in 2.95 seconds.
“He’s trying to figure out what to buy when he’s out of office. He was going to get a Stingray. He’s imprinted on Stingray,” Chevrolet’s Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter told Road & Track after he escorted Mr. Biden around the Detroit Auto Show earlier this week.
The vice president had a close encounter with a splendid ’admiral blue’ Grand Sport. But Mr. Biden is quite taken with a “supercar” now in the Chevrolet inventory.
“He wants to try the Z06. He’s a little worried that it might be over the top for him, but he’s definitely interested in trying,” the engineer observed.
The Z06 is definitely a car to be reckoned with. The base starting price on the vehicle is $80,000 and it’s described by the maker as a “true world-class supercar.” And no wonder: the Z06 is powered by an LT4 supercharged 6.2L aluminum V8 engine delivering 650 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque, according to Chevrolet stats. And indeed, this supercar goes from 0 to 60 mph in 2.95 seconds the company says.
The vice president already owns a classic Corvette roadster — a “Goodwood Green” Corvette Stingray he’s had since 1967. The vice president has only been out on the road with it three times since he took office eight years ago.
His most recent brief roadtrip with his prized ride — which boasts with a 327 cubic-inch engine with 300 horsepower V8 — was with Jay Leno in during an episode of CNBC’s “Jay Leno’s Garage” in October.
“I like speed,” Mr. Biden told his host.
