KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) - The Environmental Protection Agency is giving Libby and Troy property owners until March 31 to seek asbestos help.
The Flathead Beacon reports (https://bit.ly/2jc1Rkx ) thousands of properties have been inspected and cleaned up in the Superfund area since the early 2000s.
Property owners may have to shoulder their own costs if they contact the agency after the deadline.
A mine north of Libby closed in 1990.
Hundreds were sickened or killed before the Superfund designation kicked in for Lincoln County.
Officials estimated there are 600 properties they’ve been unable to inspect so far.
The agency predicts about 10 percent of those properties may need to be cleaned up.
