John Wall was fined $15,000 on Saturday for his participation in an on-court altercation with the Boston Celtics’ Jae Crowder after Wednesday night’s game in Boston.
Crowder was fined $25,000.
The fines were no surprise.
Boston and Washington have a brewing rivalry. Last season, then-Wizards coach Randy Wittman was accused of yelling obscenities at Crowder. Also last season, Celtics point guard Marcus Smart broke the nose of Wizards guard Bradley Beal with an inadvertent elbow to the face.
This season, Wall hit Smart up around the neck and head, drawing a flagrant foul. The game Wednesday in Boston was testy and ended with Wall and Crowder emphatically discussing things on the floor. Crowder stuck his finger in Wall’s face, leading to a half-slap from Wall and the gathering of a crowd.
The two reportedly yell at each further back in the locker room are.
The teams play again on Jan. 24 in Verizon Center.
