RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Former North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory pardoned six people who had been convicted of crimes just before he left office.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reports (https://bit.ly/2ilOYHC) McCrory signed the clemency orders Dec. 30 but did not publicly announce it.

Included in his actions was a pardon of innocence for Horace Lee Shelton, who was convicted in 2012 for forging three checks in Buncombe County. He spent two more years in prison before a judge vacated his conviction and dismissed the charges after it was determined someone else committed the crime.

McCrory also signed a commutation order for Janet Danahey, who was sentenced to life in prison for setting an apartment fire that killed four people in Greensboro in 2002. The order makes Danahey eligible for parole in 2029.
