JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - The Jackson Public Schools board has voted to launch a national search for the school district’s next superintendent.
The Clarion-Ledger reports (https://on.thec-l.com/2jEMikb) the board’s action Tuesday to release a Request For Proposal is the first step members have taken to find a replacement for former superintendent Cedrick Gray, who left the position two months ago. The proposal acts as an invitation for firms to bid to provide search practices.
The district says the RFP is limited to consultants who have at least 10 years of experience securing “highly qualified” superintendents.
The search for Gray’s successor comes at a time of turmoil. State officials downgraded the district’s accreditation status to probation last year, warning that additional sanctions were a possibility if improvements in classroom instruction, safety and discipline weren’t made.
