LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. (AP) - Southbound Interstate 15 in Riverside County has reopened after being shut down when a suspect opened fire on California Highway Patrol officers during a pursuit, before holing himself up at a home.

The Press-Enterprise newspaper reports (https://bit.ly/2jbUhst ) the standoff at the residence in Lake Elsinore ended Thursday with an officer-involved shooting, but officials didn’t immediately say if anyone was killed or wounded.

The incident began late Wednesday when a CHP officer pulled over a DUI suspect on southbound I-15. The motorist was uncooperative, exited his car and began firing as the officer took cover behind a barricade.

The officer wasn’t hit but the bullets disabled a CHP vehicle.

The man then drove off, leading authorities on a chase along the freeway and local roads before he barricaded himself in the home.

The incident is under investigation.
