SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Mormon critics are planning to unveil a television advertisement that encourages former and current Mormons to divulge information that could harm the church’s tax-exempt status.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2j1Eryj ) that gay-rights activist and Mormon critic Fred Karger on Tuesday debuted an ad that depicts former members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints describing what they consider misdeeds the church has committed. The advertisement then asks people to share any information that could be used in a complaint to the IRS.

Karger said Tuesday that he and his group are launching a comprehensive challenge to the church’s tax-exempt status. The move was spurred by a late 2015 announcement by the LDS Church that prevented children of gay Mormon parents from being baptized.
