SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Salt Lake City is planning to launch a multi-use development that will include business incubator space and affordable housing units.
Mayor Jackie Biskupski announced on Monday that the city wants to develop a building it already owns into 40-plus “micro-unit” apartments between 250 and 500 square feet in addition to business and retail space. The micro-unit apartments would cost about $542 per month but other units could be developed for higher incomes.
City Councilman Derek Kitchen says Biskupski is doing the right thing by addressing Salt Lake City’s shortage of affordable housing.
More details on the project will be provided at a development meeting and site tour on Feb. 9.
