WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) - A suburban Chicago man who exchanged gunfire with police on a commuter train died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. That’s the preliminary finding of the Lake County Coroner’s office that was revealed by Illinois State Police.
Authorities say Jamal Parks turned the gun on himself after shooting at “several officers” on the Metra train that was stopped in Deerfield on Friday and died of a single gunshot wound to the head.
The Cook County South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force had been pursuing the 32-year-old Parks as a possible suspect in a fatal shooting last week in Evergreen Park of 34-year-old David Murrell of Chicago. The task force continues to search for two suspects who were seen by witnesses fleeing the scene.
