DENVER (AP) - Beth McCann has been sworn in as Denver’s first female district attorney.
The Democrat, who was sworn in during a ceremony Tuesday, defeated independent Helen Morgan in the November election. The Denver Post reports (https://goo.gl/eCysWP ) that since then, she has met with attorneys in the district attorney’s office, judges, public safety officials and community members who are interested in the criminal justice system.
McCann and Assistant District Attorney Ryan Brackley will manage an office with 80 lawyers, 125 staff members and a $23 million budget. They also will manage more than 5,500 annual felony cases and more than 12,000 misdemeanors.
Along with focusing on juvenile justice, McCann told KUSA-TV she will remove Denver from the list of the few remaining judicial districts in the state that seek the death penalty.
