LANSING, Mich. (AP) - A group of education and business leaders plans to study Michigan’s approach to funding K-12 schools.
The initiative was announced Tuesday by the School Finance Research Collaborative and has the support of the Oakland Schools superintendent, the Small Business Association of Michigan and former state House Speaker Rick Johnson.
They say the new study will build on the findings of a state-funded school adequacy study that was released in June and will better explore the cost to educate students who are at risk, have special needs or are English-language learners.
The collaborative is being funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. The report may be done within a year.
