DETROIT (AP) - State regulators say they’ve closed an investigation of how Detroit Medical Center ensures that surgical instruments are clean and sterile.
The Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs tells The Detroit News that the medical center, known as DMC, is complying with state and federal laws.
The newspaper says (https://detne.ws/2iCldyg ) most state violations involved a lack of training by employees who missed sessions. DMC said it passed a surprise inspection on Dec. 22.
DMC has admitted that unclean surgical tools had sometimes forced doctors to delay procedures, including heart surgery on a 7-month-old girl, although it insists that no one was harmed. The problems were reported in August by the News.
One department cleans surgical tools for five DMC hospitals.
