BUTTE, Mont. (AP) - A broken water pipe caused extensive damage to a three-story building at Montana Tech.

Tech spokeswoman Amanda Badovinac tells The Montana Standard (bit.ly/2iYy9j1) that the flooding happened Friday on the third floor of the Frank and Ann Gilmore University Relations Center. Tech employees responding to an alarm were able to remove paintings, computers and personal belongings.

There was water damage to all three floors of the $2 million building, which opened in 2012.

Tech’s offices for fundraising, alumni relations and public affairs were moved to another building.

Badovinac says the building will need new drywall, paint, carpet and ceiling tiles and the fire suppression system and elevator will need repairs. The extent of the damage is still being assessed.
