NEW YORK (AP) - The New York metro area is bracing for a snowstorm that is expected dump up to a foot of snow in some areas.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Wednesday that public schools will be closed on Thursday due to “expected significant snowfall” of 8 to 12 inches of snow. It will start as a mix of sleet and rain early Thursday before changing to heavy snow between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m.
On Long Island, the National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning for Suffolk County, saying it could get from 10 to 14 inches of snow. Nassau County is bracing for eight to 12 inches of snow.
Besides New York City, winter storm warnings have also been issued for Westchester, Rockland, Dutchess, Columbia and Ulster counties.
