SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Authorities say they have detonated an old cache of dynamite that was discovered by a hiker in the San Rafael Deseret in south-central Utah.
The Salt Lake Tribune reported (https://bit.ly/2kMnlHK ) Tuesday that about two dozen sticks of aged dynamite were secured and blown up by a Utah bomb squad on Jan. 31.
The dynamite was found in neighboring Emery County in a wooden box inside a rock crevasse.
Authorities are urging those who discover explosives to avoid touching them and call 911.
Last week’s dynamite disposal comes after Emery County deputies responded to another abandoned explosives call in October. A burlap bag of dynamite had been discovered by a landowner and another person salvaging wood from a collapsed building.
