The White House fired back at Iran’s supreme leader Tuesday for ridiculing President Trump, saying the U.S. has a new sheriff in charge.
“The ayatollah is going to realize there’s a new president in office,” said White House press secretary Sean Spicer. “He [Mr. Trump] will continue to take action as he sees fit. I think Iran is kidding itself if they don’t realize there’s a new president in town.”
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Tuesday that he’s grateful to Mr. Trump for showing “the true face of the U.S.”
“We however thank this new guy in the White House, since he largely did the job we had been trying to do in the past decades: to divulge the true face of the U.S.” the ayatollah said. “We had been working to show the world the depth of corruption in U.S. government and ranks and files of the ruling elite; Trump did it in few days after coming to the White House.”
He referred to the president derisively as “Mr. Newcomer.”
The Trump administration last week imposed a round of sanctions against Iranian individuals and entities in response to Tehran firing a ballistic missile test.
