The hermit regime of Kim Jong-un in North Korea doesn’t have many friends. However, it seems the ties to its original benefactor, the Soviet Union under Joseph Stalin, remain strong. The official North Korean news agency in Pyongyang, KCNA, recently listed Russia as topping its BFF list, with Putin getting the first Lunar New Year holiday card.

“Around the time of the New Year [Kim Jong Un] sent greeting cards and congratulatory messages,” KCNA stated, before listing in order the leaders of Russia, China and the general secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, reports UPI.

The message did not list the head-of-state’s name, just the position and continues a trend of Kim Jong-un’s father. Russia has topped the list for three years in a row now.

Russia supplies the majority of fuel to North Korea and recently opened up new channels of cooperation in developing the railroad links between the two countries, which includes North Koreans studying in Russian transportation universities in Siberia.

With the bromance between The Donald and Vlad blossoming, perhaps Russia is in a position to rein in the North Korean strong man and his nuclear ambitions.
