ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - The FBI and police in Anchorage are investigating the theft of an ATM that may have involved heavy equipment.
A fire alarm went off at Denali Alaska Federal Credit Union shortly before 3 a.m. Monday. Firefighters showed up and found extensive damage to the 36th Avenue building.
Firefighters alerted police, who say it appears a construction vehicle was used to tear into the bank wall, pick up the ATM and remove it.
Police spokeswoman Renee Oistad says the construction vehicle may have had some sort of a bucket on it.
She could not comment on whether a construction vehicle remained at the scene.
FBI spokeswoman Staci Feger-Pellesier (FAY-ger pel-ES-ee-ay) says the agency did not have additional information it could release.
