TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie says President Donald Trump doesn’t believe that the U.S. and Russia share the same moral ground when it comes to killings.

Speaking Sunday on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” Christie said that while Trump believes the leaders of countries deserve to be treated with respect, “it doesn’t mean he won’t stand up to him.”

The Republican governor was referring to Trump’s interview with Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly that was due to air later Sunday. In an excerpt that was released Saturday, Trump said he respects Vladimir Putin and - after O’Reilly called the Russian leader “a killer” - Trump said the United States has many of them.

Christie said Trump was simply pushing back at O’Reilly during the interview, not questioning the nation’s moral standing.
