ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) - Bishop David Talley has formally assumed his new role as the 12th bishop of the Diocese of Alexandria.

The 66-year-old succeeds Ronald Herzog who announced his retirement about three months ago. Talley was introduced at the time as coadjutor bishop of the diocese until Herzog’s retirement took effect.

Herzog, in a release from the Diocese, said he will give all he has and is capable of as a brother and shepherd in his new role.

The Town Talk reports (https://townta.lk/2kv3ixA ) Herzog is now bishop emeritus of the Diocese of Alexandria. He asked to be a coadjutor bishop from Pope Francis because of health issues and submitted a letter of resignation, which was accepted Feb. 2.

Herzog had served as bishop of the Diocese of Alexandria since January 2005.
