GROTON, Vt. (AP) - A snowmobiler has been killed in a crash in Vermont.

Vermont State Police say 24-year-old Gregory McLeod of Berlin died at the scene.

The crash happened Thursday evening in Groton.

State police say the snowmobile was traveling at a high rate of speed when it went off a trail and crashed into some trees. McLeod, the operator, was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.

State police say it appears that speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
