LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Renovations are being planned for a west Lincoln community center that was built as an elementary school in 1918.
The Lincoln Journal Star (https://bit.ly/2lSDbie ) reports a capital campaign to raise $1.8 million to expand and improve the Willard Community Center has almost reached its goal.
The facility has served as a community center since 1980. The center includes a day care and before- and after-school programs for middle school students. It also includes social programs such as bingo, bunco and potlucks for seniors and others.
The renovation will include a three-story addition to the building, giving the center room to grow.
Center director Janelle Soderling says a new roof and windows, an energy-efficient heating and air-condition system, handicap-accessible bathrooms and a better Wi-Fi system will also be added.
Construction is expected to begin in May.
