TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - Tayler Persons had 31 points, including a career-high six 3-pointers, seven rebounds and five assists and Ball State beat Toledo 82-74 on Tuesday night to maintain at least a share of first place in the West Division of the Mid-American Conference with one regular-season game remaining.
Franko House scored 17 with eight boards and four assists, Ryan Weber added 14 points and Francis Kiapway hit three 3s and finished with 12 points for Ball State (19-11, 10-7).
Two 3-pointers by Persons made it 6-0 and the Cardinals never trailed. He hit all six of his 3s in the first 7½ minutes and finished with 24 first-half points as Ball State took a 41-36 lead into the break. Weber converted back-to-back 3-point plays to make it 68-56 with 7:09 to play and, after Jonathan Williams hit two free throws to pull Toledo to 75-70 with 52 seconds left, Kiapway made 3 of 4 foul shots and Persons added two more to make it 80-70 with 25 seconds remaining.
Williams led Toledo (15-15, 8-9) with 23 points.
