AKRON, Ohio (AP) - Michael Weathers scored 22 points and hit three crucial free throws in the final 20 seconds to help lead Miami (Ohio) to a 79-75 upset win over Akron on Tuesday night.

The RedHawks (11-19, 4-13) entered at the game at the bottom of the Mid-American Conference East Division while the Zips had already clinched the outright conference title and the No.1 seed in next week’s tournament.

Akron led 74-73 with but was outscored 6-1 in the final minute. Weathers made a layup and Abdoulaye Harouna added a free throw to give Miami a 76-74 lead. Two possessions later, Akron’s Isaiah Johnson missed one of two free throws that would have tied it, and Weathers hit 3 of 4 to close it out.

Jake Wright scored 17 points for Miami and Weathers added 14.

Antino Jackson led Akron (23-7, 13-4) with 12 points. Kwan Cheatham Jr. finished with 11.
