FARGO, N.D. (AP) - A Fargo city employee has been disciplined for allegedly making derogatory comments on Facebook about Dakota Access pipeline protesters.
A city spokesman identified the employee as meter technician Enos Lien. Lien is accused of writing a Facebook post saying that if protesters failed to leave, they should be fenced in, shot or left to drown in flooding. Lien wasn’t working at the time.
Officials say Lien was issued a written reprimand and placed on unpaid suspension. He didn’t immediately return a message left by The Associated Press.
The city says all employees will be required to attend enhanced cultural sensitivity training.
City police officers are going through similar training after a recent incident in which an officer came upon a Native American sweat lodge and didn’t know what it was.
