After the confusing end to Sunday night’s Oscar show, Emma Stone disputed a sudden rumor that Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway had mistakenly received the card announcing her as best actress.

The stars of “Bonnie and Clyde” read that “La La Land” had won best picture, but a few moments later an Academy member ran onstage to say that “Moonlight” had in fact won.

“I was also holding my best actress in a leading role card that entire time, so I’m not sure what happened,” Miss Stone, the co-star of “La La Land,” said in the press interview room just after the ceremony ended.

On Monday, PriceWaterhouseCoopers apologized for the error.

“We sincerely apologize to ’Moonlight,’ ’La La Land,’ Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, and Oscar viewers for the error that was made during the award announcement for Best Picture. The presenters had mistakenly been given the wrong category envelope and when discovered, was immediately corrected. We are currently investigating how this could have happened, and deeply regret that this occurred,” the accounting firm said in a statement.

Closeups of the footage seemed to show that the envelope from which Mr. Beatty drew the winning card was labeled “best actress.”

But Miss Stone had no ill will regarding her movie only winning Best Picture for all of two minutes.

“God, I love ’Moonlight’!” she enthused. “We are so excited for ’Moonlight.’”
