PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A firing range, vehicles, Tasers and bailouts of several underfunded police pension plans are among some of the ways Rhode Island law enforcement agencies are spending their shares of a $230 million settlement with Google.
Five agencies are splitting $230 million for their roles in helping to investigate a marketing technique that allowed users of Google AdWords to illegally sell drugs not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/2lbduYp ) the five include the North Providence and East Providence police departments, the state police, the attorney general’s office and the National Guard. All are members of a special FDA task force.
The settlement money is also being spent on two boxing rings, 1,094 doses of the opioid antidote Narcan and nine new or renovated buildings.
