WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - A Warwick father has pleaded not guilty to a felony cruelty and child neglect charge after his 7-month-old daughter was found unresponsive at a house that police described as “relatively deplorable.”

The Providence Journal reports that 37-year-old Ryan Beeley entered the plea Wednesday in court, where bail was set at $50,000 surety. Authorities say he remained held at the Adult Correction Institutions on Thursday after he was unable to make bail.

Emergency personnel responding to a 911 call from the infant’s mother arrived at the home around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and found the infant wasn’t breathing. She was declared dead at Hasbro Children’s Hospital.

Authorities say Beeley and infant were home alone.

Police have said the girl’s death appears unintentional and she had no visible physical injuries.
