The Los Angeles Police Department will likely devote 500 officers to Oscar Awards protection detail and a “three-tiered security perimeter” will be in place to protect attendees at the 89th Academy Awards this Sunday.
Hollywood Boulevard in front of the Dolby Theatre will be tented for the second consecutive year, Variety reported Friday.
All 3,300 guests will have to pass through a three-tiered security perimeter before accessing the red carpet, the entertainment trade magazine reported.
“We have planned for all contingencies, from protests to even a potential terrorist attack and that is all built into the security plan,” LAPD Commander Blake Chow said, Variety reported.
The department won’t say how many officers would be deployed, though it is expected to be roughly 500, about the number that worked the show last year.
For all the precautions, Variety noted that local authorities haven’t detected any credible threats to this weekend’s festivities.
The 89th Academy Awards, emceed by late-night comic Jimmy Kimmel, will be televised live at 8:30 p.m. Sunday on ABC as well as live-streamed on ABC.com and the ABC streaming-video app.
