NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - The Natchez Board of Alderman has reappointed Thelma Newsome to the Natchez-Adams School Board of Trustees.

Newsome has served for 10 years, but her term was to expire Feb. 28.

Ward 1 Alderwoman Joyce Arceneaux-Mathis suggested the city allow anyone interested in serving to submit applications. But when the matter was brought up at Thursday’s special call meeting, Ward 4 Alderwoman Felicia Irving said Newsome had expressed interest in being reappointed.

Arceneaux-Mathis urged the board to take applications for the two weeks Mayor Darryl Grennell had outlined. After that, she said, the board could make a decision. Irving said the board didn’t need to “fix what’s not broken” and urged the board to reappoint Newsome, which it did.

The Natchez Democrat reports (https://bit.ly/2mlZKMk ) Newsome was reappointed on a 4-2 vote.
