WASHINGTON (AP) - District of Columbia students are going to be reading Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech at the Lincoln Memorial in honor of African-American History Month and King’s birthday.
The National Park Service says in a statement that the reading will take place Friday at 1 p.m. The speech is being recited by 100 fifth-graders from Watkins Elementary School. Each student will read one line.
King’s birthday is Jan. 15, but the reading was moved because of conflicts with the presidential inauguration. This is the 13th annual reading of the speech.
The Lincoln Memorial is the place where King delivered the speech during the 1963 March on Washington.
