Two of President Trump’s top advisers said Thursday that national security, economic nationalism, and emphasizing deregulation have been among the central governing priorities and philosophies in the early days of the Trump administration.
Stephen K. Bannon, Mr. Trump’s top political strategist and a former Breitbart News executive, said in a rare public appearance that “three verticals” for the administration include national security and sovereignty, economic nationalism, and a “deconstruction of the administrative state.”
Mr. Bannon appeared alongside White House chief of staff Reince Priebus at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Maryland.
Mr. Priebus said the nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to fill the vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court was a significant event in the early days of the administration.
“It established trust — it established that President Trump is a man of his word,” Mr. Priebus said.
Mr. Priebus also mentioned deregulation and immigration as emphases of the administration’s early days.
“The truth of the matter is, Donald Trump — President Trump — brought together the party and the conservative movement,” Mr. Priebus said. “If the party and the conservative movement are together — similar to Steve and I — it can’t be stopped.”
