Richard Spencer, a leader in the ethno-nationalist “alt-right” movement, was booted from the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Thursday.
“He’s not welcome here,” said Ian Walters, a spokesman for the American Conservative Union, which hosts the event.
Mr. Walters said he showed up Thursday morning and purchased a general admission ticket at the registration desk.
“He was here to try to send the message that he’s a part of what goes on here and the fact is that he isn’t,” he said.
In a short video posted online, Mr. Spencer said he was “expelled” from the event and had been “politely asked to leave.”
He had earlier held forth with reporters inside the event.
“It’s sort of media pranksterism … but a very dangerous kind that involves hateful rhetoric,” Mr. Walters said. “There’s no place for that here. There’s no room for that here.”
American Conservative Union Executive Director Dan Schneider had denounced the alt-right in a speech Thursday and said they’re not part of the conservative movement.
