NEW ORLEANS (AP) - New Orleans East is getting another round of cleanup following a powerful tornado that tore through the area.
Mayor Mitch Landrieu provided residents with an update on the cleanup during a session at a church on Tuesday night. Dozens of families attended two weeks after the EF-3 twister struck the area.
WDSU-TV (https://bit.ly/2m7kVVy ) reports 11,000 tons of debris already has been picked up, and another round of debris cleanup is being added.
He says the final phase of pickup will start on March 2.
Landrieu says the storm was the worst tornado to ever hit Orleans Parish. The Federal Emergency Management Agency says about 2,400 families have registered for assistance.
