PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - The Maine Warden Service says three men were severely injured in two separate snowmobile accidents that were caused by excessive speed.
The Portland Press Herald reports (https://bit.ly/2mdcFQz ) the first crash on Tuesday afternoon involved a head-on collision between two snowmobile riders in Franklin County.
Both 24-year-old Ryan Jones and 52-year-old Michael Ouellette each suffered serious injuries despite wearing helmets. Ouellette was airlifted to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. Jones was treated at Franklin Memorial Hospital for shoulder and face injuries.
In the second accident, 55-year-old Dean Dunton was ejected from his snowmobile after he struck unevenly packed snow on a trail in Casco. Dunton was also airlifted to Central Maine Medical Center, where he’s listed in good condition.
There have been six snowmobile-related deaths this season in Maine.
