JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - An electric cooperative in central and south Mississippi is reaching out to its members to hear about the time when they or their relatives received electricity from the co-op for the first time.

The Clarion-Ledger (https://on.thec-l.com/2m6Nuz7 ) reports the Southern Pine Electric Power Association, which was started in the 1930s, is seeking to both tell the story of its origin and to share the stories of the people who worked to bring electricity to the state’s rural areas.

To tell that story, Southern Pine is requesting photographs, copies of newspaper clippings, memorabilia, and typewritten narratives of individual recollections of receiving electricity.

The cooperative now distributes electricity to more than 66,000 members in 11 counties.

Contributions can be sent to Jan Collins, P.O. Box 60, Taylorsville, MS 39168.
