Vince Vaughn and Mel Gibson, whose 2016 war film “Hacksaw Ridge” received six Oscar nominations, are reuniting for a gritty crime film about police brutality.
In “Dragged Across Concrete,” directed by “Bone Tomahawk” filmmaker S. Craig Zahler, Mr. Vaughn and Mr. Gibson will play two policemen who get suspended after a video of their strong-arm tactics goes viral, according to a description by The Hollywood Reporter.
“Low on cash and with no other options, these two embittered soldiers descend into the criminal underworld to gain their just due, but instead find far more than they wanted awaiting them in the shadows,” the description said.
Both actors lean right politically, raising questions on social media about how police brutality will be portrayed in the film, Mediaite noted.
“uh…will this be against, or…for?” tweeted Slate’s Jamelle Bouie.
“christ on a cruise ship,” wrote BuzzFeed’s Tracy Clayton.
Mr. Zahler said the film is supposed to depict “multiple viewpoints.”
“’Dragged Across Concrete’ is best suited to my goal of making a heartfelt, surprising, sad, funny, shocking, and memorable world with multiple viewpoints,” he said in a statement, Variety reported. “As is often the case in my novels and screenplays, the protagonists are in perilous circumstances against which they struggle in different and surprising — though logical — ways. I am absolutely thrilled to have Mel and Vince agree to play the lead roles.”
