RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A new report shows that Virginia employers are not taking advantage of a tax credit designed to help companies retrain workers.

The recently released report shows that only two companies applied for the worker retraining tax credit last year.

The state provides a tax credit of 30 percent of a worker’s retraining costs, but the Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity said businesses are unaware of the credit despite efforts to publicize it.

The credit was created in 1999, but fewer than 100 companies have applied for the credit.
