House Speaker Paul D. Ryan said Thursday that fixing the country’s health care system entails fully repealing and replacing Obamacare, after a report suggested congressional Republicans might be trying to rebrand the effort as a “repair.”
“I want to clarify this, [because] there’s a miscommunication going on,” Mr. Ryan, Wisconsin Republican, said on “Fox & Friends.” “If we’re going to repair the U.S. health care system and get back to a patient-centered system that actually does lower costs and gives people peace of mind, you must repeal and replace Obamacare.”
Bloomberg reported Wednesday that congressional Republicans talked about a “repair” of the law at their recent retreat as a possible strategy rebrand.
“What kind of got going on here is a confluence of words,” Mr. Ryan said. “To repair [the] American health care system, you have to repeal and replace this law, and that’s what we’re doing.”
