INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - An Indianapolis man charged in a murder-for-hire scheme that authorities say led to the fatal shootings of four men in early 2014 has been found not guilty in two of the deaths.

The Indianapolis Star reports (https://indy.st/2kWtY7W ) a jury acquitted 24-year-old John Means on Wednesday in the February 2014 slayings of Julius Douglas and Carlos Jefferson. In October, a jury couldn’t reach a verdict in the case and a mistrial was declared.

Means’ lawyer argued that prosecutors had no weapon, witness, DNA or fingerprints linking him to the killings. Prosecutors say evidence included text messages and a letter. They also say that informants told police Means bragged in jail about committing the killings.

Prosecutors say an Indianapolis drug dealer arranged the killings. Means is awaiting trial in the other double-slaying.
