VICTORVILLE, Calif. (AP) - The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is investigating after a deputy was recorded on video threatening to trump up charges to jail a man.

Victorville resident Duncan Hicks tells the Riverside Press-Enterprise newspaper (https://bit.ly/2jyTEKM ) he was treated rudely and refused service when he went into the sheriff’s station to file a domestic incident complaint Jan. 27.

Hicks left but returned with his phone ready to record. A deputy again refused to help him and threatened to arrest Hicks.

When Hicks asked the deputy why he would go to jail, the deputy replied, “I’ll create something.”

The deputy then told Hicks - incorrectly - that recording him was against the law.

Sheriff John McMahon says the incident is being investigated and “appropriate action will be taken.”
