PHOENIX (AP) - A congressman from Arizona has announced that he won’t challenge U.S. Sen. Jeff Flake during his Republican primary next year.

The Arizona Capitol Times reports (https://bit.ly/2ku5Bkx ) that Gosar told reporters this weekend that he was considering challenging Flake, who has upset some Republicans by clashing with President Donald Trump. But on Tuesday, he published a statement that said he has “no plans to run for a different office at this time.”

Gosar is a fourth-term Republican representing Arizona’s 4th Congressional District, which covers much of the rural western portion of the state. He noted in his statement that he has recently been elected chairman of the Congressional Western Caucus and of the House Committee on Natural Resources’ Subcommittee on Energy and Minerals.
