OZARK, Ark. (AP) - Two women in western Arkansas have been arrested on felony charges of concealing a birth and abuse of a corpse after authorities found a dead newborn in a cardboard box in a refrigerator.

Ozark police say 38-year-old Mary Williams and 64-year-old Vickie Falconio were arrested Monday. According to police, Williams had been in jail on unrelated charges when she complained of abdominal pain.

Police say Williams told authorities that she’d recently given birth. Police then went to a home in Ozark, where they found the infant’s body.

Police say they believe the baby was born sometime between Jan. 19 and Jan. 23. The infant’s body was taken to the state crime laboratory for an autopsy.

It wasn’t clear whether either woman had an attorney who could speak on her behalf.
