NEWARK, Del. (AP) - State police are investigating two robberies at gas stations in New Castle County.

The first occurred around 4:20 a.m. Saturday at a Shell station on Christiana Road in Newark. Police say a man armed with a handgun demanded cash and cigarettes and left in a vehicle.

The next robbery occurred about two hours later, about 8 miles away in the Stanton area. Police say a man implied he was armed and demanded money. The clerk refused to hand over any cash. Police say the man went behind the counter and hit the clerk in the face before taking some cash. Police say the clerk refused medical treatment.

There is no indication that the robberies were related. Police have not identified suspects in either case.
