TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - The University of Arizona has closed the books on a big fundraising campaign and says it came in nearly $100 million above the $1.5 billion goal.
The university says additional gifts and commitments counted before Dec. 31 but after the goal was reached in November raised the final total of the “Arizona NOW” campaign to nearly $1.6 billion.
The university says it’ll use the money for purposes such as supporting faculty and research.
.According to the university, the money was raised through more than 40,000 gifts and commitments. The campaign lasted six years, about two years short of the planned duration.
Previous campaigns that ended in 1990 and 2005 raised $100 million and $1 billion respectively.
