Veteran journalist and Fox News senior political analyst Brit Hume took issue Friday with a headline from a story posted at Fox Nation, a website owned by the cable news network.

“It’s A Bloodbath At The State Department,” Fox Nation tweeted, using the headline from a New York Post story published on its site Friday.

The Post story, citing a CBS News report, stated that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has been “cleaning house” and that “staffers in the offices of deputy secretary of state for management and resources as well as counselor were shown the door Thursday.”

But Mr. Hume said the headline was an inaccurate representation of what actually happened.

“No it’s not [a bloodbath],” he tweeted. “It’s the departure of political appointees from [the] previous administration.”

A State Department spokesman did make a statement to that effect, which was also cited in the Post’s “bloodbath” story.

“As part of the transition from one administration to the next, we continue to build out our team,” the spokesman, R.C. Hammond, told CBS News. “The State Department is supported by a very talented group of individuals, both Republicans and Democrats.”
