MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The former mayor of a central Alabama town is going to prison.
A judge in Montgomery sentenced former Mosses mayor Walter Hill to three years in prison for an ethics conviction. The judge also ordered Hill to pay the Lowndes County city restitution of more than $25,000.
The state attorney general’s office says Hill will spend two years on probation after he gets out of prison.
Hill pleaded guilty in January to a charge of using his office for personal gain. The charges included allegations that Hill used city funds to make his child support payments.
Hill resigned the day before he entered the guilty plea. He was previously convicted on misdemeanor ethics charges in 2014 but remained in office.
Mosses is about 30 miles southwest of Montgomery.
