BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Voters in Burlington will be asked in March to approve a $19 million bond over 10 years to pay for upgrades to the district’s nine aging schools.
The Burlington Free Press reports (https://bfpne.ws/2lnYeex ) the schools are out of compliance with safety standards, with some needing more work than others.
The costs for the upgrades are included in the 2017-18 school budget. Details are available on the district’s website at www.bsdvt.org .
Both the bond and the budget will need to be approved by voters for plans to proceed.
The district says if the bond fails, unplanned emergency repairs could affect learning and result in budget deficits.
