BOSTON (AP) - Sen. Elizabeth Warren says the nation needs a labor secretary with a record of respecting workers and protecting their rights.

The Massachusetts Democrat made the comments Wednesday after President Donald Trump’s nominee for labor secretary Andrew Puzder abruptly withdrew his name.

Warren said Puzder’s departure is good news for American workers.

Warren pointed to what she said was Puzder’s mistreatment of his own employees and his company’s record of labor abuses.

On Monday Warren sent a 28-page letter to Puzder, seeking information about conflicts of interest and pressing him on his opposition to minimum wage laws and what she said was his company’s history of labor and discrimination suits.

Puzder, who also lost the support of some Senate Republicans, said in a statement he was honored to have been considered.
